SYAN Hosts Successful Coach Development Day

Posted on 25/01/11

The South Yorkshire McCain Athletics Network ran a free Coach Development Day on Saturday 22nd January 2011 at Newfield School, Sheffield.
The day began with a coach education workshop run by Debbie Beresford to clarify any problems or confusion with the new coach education structure and informed coaches of the future pathways available for their own personal development.
Pete Moore (South Yorkshire coach mentor) delivered a personal development planning workshop, which allowed coaches to evaluate their own personal strengths as a coach and then to focus on identifying three personal coaching goals to be achieved over the next 12 months. It is these goals that will help structure the coach support provided by the network over the next 12 months, ensuring the network is providing local coaches with the development opportunities they require.
To finish the day, Pete McKnight (Leicestershire County Cricket Club) delivered a 2 hour strength and conditioning workshop which focused on providing coaches with exercises and ideas that they could deliver with limited or no equipment in varying facilities (e.g. track/ field/ sports hall). The day was a great success with lots of positive feedback.
