Running Sub Group Launch

Posted on 20/04/11

On Wednesday 20th of April 2011, The South Yorkshire McCain’s Athletics Network successfully launched their running sub group.

The aim of the sub group is to extend the SYANs involvement to the remaining SY clubs (who do not take part in Track & Field or young people’s athletics).

The key aims of the group are:-
a. To identify the support and development needs of these clubs, and to build those support needs into the network delivery plan.
b. To work with the Run England pilot scheme activator to ensure that the club and project aims are consistent and integrated
c. To present a joined up logical pathway for new adult participants / starters to running, where Run England groups and existing clubs are both involved.

The evening began with a buffet and networking, and was followed by a presentation given by Steve Gaines, South Yorkshire McCain’s Athletics Network Chair, which gave clubs information on the SYAN, the perceived need for a running sub group, and how the network can support all clubs in South Yorkshire. This was followed by a brief presentation was given by Emma Slater-Clayton, Run England Coordinator for the area.

The evening finished with a planning session for the adult participation section of the year 2 plan, which is due in at the end of April 2011. By launching this sub group, it has enabled running clubs to input into the year 2 plan, and has allowed specific and demanded areas to be addressed through projects in the year 2 plan.

The group are next meeting in June, and have many action points from the meeting.
